What style of fireplace will suit my home?

It's difficult to pick a style of fireplace to suit your home. Beyond seeing one you love there is some advice that can be given on the language of fireplaces, what they say about your house and the atmosphere they can bring to a room.

In many cases Chesney’s fireplaces are direct copies of original antique surrounds which means that more often than not we know the type of room they come from and the effect they can have.

A surround like The Classic Victorian is perfectly suited to a simple and elegant slightly less formal interior. The clean lines and classic proportions of this fireplace make it easy to dress and decorate around. The proportions are pleasing and in most cases The Classic Victorian would suit any more modest Victorian house. A classic two story terraced London Victorian house and The Classic Vic go together very well. The Classic Victorian, in my opinion, looks particularly good as part of a shabby chic interior. It is the perfect ‘beginners’ fireplace.
The Soane Pattern VI was designed by Sir John Soane and can be seen in situ at the Sir John Soane Museum London. Soane, as the first modern English architect, produced designs that fit well into almost any high end interior as the Soane VI illustrates his designs were timeless, simple and elegant . As one of the most influential and original of all English architects Soane’s eye for clean architectural lines is reflected in the design of many of the grand houses and state buildings of the late 18th and early 19th Century. The design is precise and linear relying on perfect masonry for its manufacture. The simplicity and quality of the Soane Pattern VI allows it to fit into any well designed interior, whether as a traditional piece of design or as a deliciously irreverent nod to classic proportion and faultless execution. It is shown with the Cadogan fire basket but looks equally well with the Fibonacci fire basket, a piece of mathematical elegance.
The Burlington is a surround I associate with modern living in a traditional home. Although the design is an old one the Burlington is a favourite fireplace and very popular with most customers. The detailing on the Burlington makes it an elegant feature fireplace, the design is intricate without being imposing and fits well into a modern formal setting. It’s shown in the image with modern steel slips and the universal fire basket with spherical steel fire dogs. I would choose this surround for a modest library, a grown up sitting room or a large master bedroom.
The Faulkner fireplace, shown with universal basket and matching fire dogs is a very stylish product. This is a fireplace which shows visitors you are bang on trend. Its designer Tom Faulkner is famous for making refined mathematical and industrial style furniture and the sweeping curves of the Faulkner are typical of his work. The Faulkner is a real statement piece and relies on flawless craftsmanship for its charm and elegance. The Faulkner feels a bit James Bond, a little bit Studio 64 and very, very grown up.
The Marseilles in Bianco Avorio is a large French piece. It is often chosen to soften contemporary extentions to large family houses. As a traditional French fireplace, found in hallways and kitchens as well as rustic living spaces, the Marseilles is a little piece of a French Farmhouse in your kitchen. I think its wonderful with a  woodburning stove and adds the right amount of homey rustic charm. It looks absolutely stunning dressed for Christmas in festive foliage and its extra height makes it really stand out. A good place to store more precious items out of reach of small hands. A city inglenook for a large London kitchen with a lot of comfort and some French flair thrown in for good measure.
